As a police officer, the ability to read a crowd is an important difference between which action to take and what to avoid in order to keep the situation under control. Telling this diference needs a keen eye and ear in order to determing the best course of action but what should you pay attention to most? Reading body language is crucial in order to maintain order in large crowds.

Determining the threat of a crowd can be told by simple body language. You have to pay attention to their hands and the way they are traveling to help make your first evaluation. Closed fist, angry looks, and and distress in the way they are walking can help you make the correct first assessment into what the nature of their intent actually is. There are lots of things to be mindful of but you should try your best to go with your instincts.

Going with your instincts can help you maintain order with crowds of people but be aware that not every crowd needs to be controlled with brute force. When dealing with crowds of people it is best to use a cool head and be mindful of how the situation can be made worse by the wrong decision. Using the best judgement will always lead to the best result and you can do this by correctly assessing information.
